Stanley's Newsbook
Here's what we found in the back of that old chest of drawers.
It was a bit tatty & dusty, but still intact, held together with two rusty old staples. Franky was delighted - so was I, actually. Here are a few of the pages - I love the teacher's 'Gs' and ticks and corrections in red pencil.. On the inside of the front cover, it just says "Stanley". (Just click on any picture to enlarge it.)
I contacted the people we rented the cottage from and they just said 'Keep it' - no one had lived permanently in the house for years, apparently. I spoke to the people next door - they'd lived there some time and thought that the last family to occupy the house were called 'Dickinson' - old Mrs Dickinson had passed away years ago. I got in touch with the local school; they were very interested, of course and decided to consult their records. That's when we really got a shock! Stanley Dickinson attended the local school in the mid-fifties! He'd be in his sixties now!
We took the book home with us and Franky kept looking through it; but to be honest, I couldn't let it drop either. I felt the need to find out more.
